Loud one, Fred Smith was the first pro skateboarder I ever met. I was 12 years old and skating the Cambridge Bowl--13 foot transitions, kinked to 3 feet of vert. Blender just put this photo of him up on Facebook. So rad. Freddie ran the Skate Hut in Providence, RI. He was the one that dubbed me "wonder boy" one day when I walked in to skate. It took me years to live that one down.

Kids often ask my how many boards I break. I've been riding Powell wood for more than twelve years now and I think I could count my broken boards on one hand. My Positiv boards stay stiff even after a disastrous day like this one:

While skating the other day at Tony's, Jesse put down the rules: He, Staab and Tony all had three chances to make ONE of the tricks they were trying. If none of them pulled it, I got to put on one of my classic playlists. After they all bailed and we were happily skating to Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, the only way to get it turned off was for EACH of them to land their respective tricks. Staab and Tony made their tricks next try. They really don't like my music. But I've got to say, Jesse must be warming up to C&C Music Factory cuz he never did make his trick and we were rocking to some sweet 90's dance music the rest of the session thanks to him. For those with more lounge leaning tendencies, I give you this:

The other day I went to get my wrist checked out. The Doctor was trying to get me to show him when it hurt. I said it only hurt when it bears weight so he put a plastic basket full of gauze pads in my hand. Not heavy enough. So he hands me a stack of papers about four inches thick. Ouch! Yes, that's heavy enough. What is that? "Oh, that's your file", my doctor replied. I was thinking that considering how long I've been skating, that really wasn't too bad of a medical file... Until I asked how long they keep files. Turns out they get rid of them after six years. Anyway, I'm hoping it's fixed now. Add this one to the stack. I took photos this time:
1) Cool $100K live X-Ray machine. 2) 1.5" needle full of drugs and ready to go. 3) Going in. 4) I swear it should have come out the other side of my wrist.

For some reason I never went to battle with this trick till just the other day. Probably just avoided it because it's really hard. Glad to have made one now. Thanks to Josh for the artsy filming job.

The banners that they had made for each of the riders at the Paris demo were 23 feet tall hanging from the ceiling. The best part is that none of us posed for the photos. Most skaters don't own suits like that anyway. Ahh, the wonders of photoshop.

I went by Theeve Trucks the other day and my friend Brian Howard gave me some trucks to try out. I put a set on my vert board and a set on my pool board. Today I skated my vert board at Tony's ramp. Wow, these trucks are light! The trucks, combined with the new Airwalk outsole I've been testing, made my it feel like I was riding a freestyle board. Then I went to Bucky's bowl and got to try out how these bad boys turn (they come stock with Bones Bushings). Better than Indy... Yes, I said it. Check'em.
